CBB FREE PICK: Princeton Tigers at Indiana Hoosiers
#697 OVER 142 (Wednesday, November 20 @ 7 pm EST)
For the time being, Indiana remains committed to playing a faster brand of basketball. We witnessed a similar pattern last season when the Hoosiers opened with five straight games of 72 or more possessions. It didn’t last as once the level of competition increased, IU was forced to slow things down due to a lack of offensive efficiency. There’s little reason to think the Hoosiers will take their foot off the gas after averaging 93.5 ppg through four games, especially with their offensive efficiency at a robust 22nd nationally.
Princeton is off to an 0-3 start with the main rotation featuring as many as five underclassmen. The lack of experience has really showed up on the defensive end with Duquesne netted 94 points on 1.40 ppp, San Francisco 82 points on 1.15 ppp, and Lafayette 72 points on 1.10 ppp. That’s not exactly a murderers’ row of offensive firepower.
Even going back to last season, with a more experienced group, Princeton had trouble on the defensive end against more talented teams. St. John’s hung 89, Duke 101, and Yale, the class of the Ivy League, averaged nearly 80 ppg in their three meetings against the Tigers.
If Princeton can find its way to 60 points (Indiana allowed 65, 74, 65, and 62), the over should be in play. Another angle to consider is first half over with the second half potentially bogging down due to a sizable margin.
