College Football Betting Free Pick: Arizona State Sun Devils vs. Fresno State Bulldogs
FREE PICK: Arizona State Sun Devils vs. Fresno State Bulldogs
#206 UNDER 53 (Saturday, December 15 @ 3:30 pm EST)
Two of my favorite teams on the “left coast” to bet this season face one another in Saturday’s Las Vegas Bowl. Arizona State will be missing potential first round draft pick receiver K’Neal Harry as he announced he will miss the bowl game to begin training for the NFL combine. Harry was senior quarterback Manny Wilkins’ main target and accumulated over one third of the team’s receiving yards (1,088) this season. Simply put, he was ASU’s only explosive threat in the passing game.
When head coach Herm Edwards took over in Tempe he made it clear this would be a run-heavy offense that would attempts to control the clock at all costs. The Sun Devils leaned on sophomore phenom running back Eno Benjamin who at 5-10, 170 lbs. gained over 1,500 yards in his first year as a starter.
It won’t be easy for ASU to just sit back and chew up yards and clock. Fresno sits 17th in the nation in overall defense and is unbelievably well balanced. They only allow 130 ypg rushing and a paltry 194 ypg passing. This despite facing numerous capable offenses (UCLA, Toledo, Nevada, Hawaii and Boise State).
Head coach Jeff Tedford is without a doubt one of the better “clock bleeders” in college football. Fresno was 106th nationally in pace per play at only 67 plays per game. They faced six hurry-up offenses and were not coaxed into many up-tempo affairs as they ran only three more plays per game in those contests.
Whoever gets a lead in this game will no doubt look to play keep away. Both coaches have identical tendencies and without one of the best pass catchers in college football, I look for this to be a grind-it-out affair. Play it under.
Eddie Walls produced an incredible college football regular season with a documented record of 80-47 63% +34.1 units (1-2 unit scale). Get every bowl selection from Eddie for the ultra-low price of $99.
