MLB Betting Free Pick: Arizona Diamondbacks at San Diego Padres

FREE PICK: Arizona Diamondbacks (Greinke) at San Diego Padres (Strahm)

#911 Arizona -120 1st 5 innings (Tuesday, May 21 @ 10:10 pm EST)

The overall stuff or velocity may not be what it once was for Arizona’s Zack Greinke but he still has an incredible understanding of how to pitch. It all starts with his vast arsenal of pitches, speeds, and movements. After that sub-par season in 2016 when he inked that mammoth deal he’s been a top-tier National League right-handed starter and this year appears no different as he currently owns a 2.78 ERA and impressive 3.15 FIP. After a minor abdominal strain, Greinke is reportedly good to go and an ideal fit vs. this right-hand heavy Padres lineups in Petco Park.

San Diego’s Matt Strahm has been as effective as Greinke but it’s questionable whether or not it will continue. He currently flashes a 3.07 ERA but there’s been a noticeable dip in velocity compared to last season when he fanned over 10 batters per 9 innings. It’s not uncommon to see a decline when a pitcher moves from the bullpen to full-time starter but I expect Strahm to regress some as his workload increases. Arizona’s offense, while not elite, has performed better that NL average thus far and they should be able to stack their lineup tonight with as many as eight right-handed bats. I went ahead an placed a bet on Arizona on the 5-inning line.
