MLB Free Betting Pick: St. Louis Cardinals at Atlanta Braves
FREE PICK: St. Louis Cardinals (Wacha) at Atlanta (Soroka)
#910 Atlanta -140 1st 5 innings (Wednesday, May 15 @ 7:20 pm EST)
Atlanta’s Mike Soroka has taken a big step forward after spending much of last season dealing with a few small injuries as well as out-of-whack mechanics. Now that he’s healthy and in-tune, we’ve seen his potential on full display with a near 60% ground ball rate and 1.21 ERA (and rock solid 2.63 FIP). Over his last five starts he’s allowed 1, 0, 1, 1 and 1 earned runs. He hasn’t allowed a home run this season which is obviously unsustainable but I see no reason to jump ship just yet.
St. Louis’ Micahel Wacha just hasn’t been all that sharp and it shows with his 5.38 ERA. He hasn’t been a complete disaster but he’s shown little ability to go deep into games because he’s simply been hit around at some point in virtually every outing. The biggest concern with Wacha is his lack of command with 22 walks which speaks to a potential injury or lack of confidence in his stuff as he’s forced to nibble.
Braves’ bullpen turning it around a bit of late but it’s still a tough group to fully trust. Really think the edge lies with Soroka over Wacha and would recommend a wager on Atlanta on the 5-inning line.
