#265 Buffalo -2 (Sunday, September 15 @ 1 pm EST)
The Bills came from behind last week to beat the Jets, 17-16. The Bills controlled the football game but were hampered by a -3 turnover margin. The key stat was Buffalo’s 5.9 yards per play vs. the Jets’ meager 3.4 ypp. Of course, this was a Jets offense that talked about being “electric” during the preseason under new head coach Adam Gase and second-year signal caller Sam Darnold. The Bills finished second in defensive DVOA last year and based on what we saw Week 1, the stop unit doesn’t appear headed for a decline. Meanwhile, the Giants franchise and offense is ready to drop off the cliff at anytime with 38-year-old quarterback Eli Manning. With weakened arm-strength and a high sack rate, the Bills offer a difficult matchup. The Giants have experienced a lot of attrition from a talent perspective with their defense over the last couple of years. The losses of Landon Collins, Olivier Vernon, and Snacks Harrison haven’t been filled. And trusting general manager Dave Gettleman to accurately replenish their talent pool seems like a long shot. The Cowboys moved the ball at will last week averaging an immense 8 yards per play. When the Giants were winning Super Bowls, they pressured the quarterback as well as any team in the NFL. However, this mighty franchise recorded just 30 sacks last year and 27 in 2017. The Bills have surrounded quarterback Josh Allen with a stronger cast this season and against this lacking Giants defense they can feature a sweet balance with the run and pass. The Bills own a clear plan in raising their franchise fortunes under GM Brandon Beane, which included inking 15 free agents in the offseason. With the franchise ascending and the Giants still on decline the Bills are a worthy bet.
