NFL FREE PICK: New England Patriots at New York Jets

#476 New York (Monday, October 21 @ 8:15 pm PT)

‘Electric’ was the word buzzing around Jets training camp this year with new head coach Adam Gase and 2nd-year quarterback Sam Darnold. The unit featured a tough Week 1 assignment with the Buffalo Bills defense and shortly after Darnold came down with mono. A basic disaster unfolded the following weeks with a brief cameo from Trevor Siemien before Luke Falk could do zero with the offense. Well, lightning struck last week to kick-start that electric feeling with a Robbie Anderson 92-yard pass play as the unit should be on the improve moving forward this season. Meanwhile, the defense hopes to make positive strides as well with the expected return of their quarterback in linebacker CJ Mosley. The linebacker was the key signing in the off-season inking a big five-year deal. The defensive unit became unglued when he left their Week 1 contest, as he’s missed the last month of action. His return should spark the defensive side to their best football of the season. Of course, the Patriots boast a perfect 6-0 SU mark on the campaign. Still the tax is sky high on the Patriots and their schedule comes up incredibly watered down with games against the Miami Dolphins, Washington Redskins, New York Giants and Falk led Jets. Last week the Giants were extremely undermanned on the offensive side of the football, while the Redskins simply fired their lame duck coach. Their one recent contest against an above average opponent the Buffalo Bills actually out-gained the Patriots by 2.1 yards per play. The Patriots defense can’t help but regress, and the Jets will keep this divisional tilt close on Monday night slipping inside this tall number.
