NFL FREE PICK: Washington Redskins at New York Giants

#256 UNDER 49 (Sunday, September 29 @ 1 pm EST)

I view Washington’s defense as better than what the stats show through three games. They had a tough draw to open the season with a healthy Philadelphia and very dynamic Dallas outfit. Defensive end Jon Allen returned last week which helped in holding Chicago to less that 300 total yards; the score of course skewed due to a slew of Redskin turnovers. And after a decent start to the year, Case Keenum is on the verge of losing his job and key target Terry McLaurin is highly questionable. The offense as a whole grades out right at league average.

There’s been an obvious overreaction to Daniel Jones who sparked last week’s come-from-behind victory against the soft defense of Tampa Bay. Jones no doubt looks more capable than Eli Manning long term but we see time and time again, the backup steps in, performs well, only to regress the following week as teams are able to watch film and formulate a game plan. And let’s not forget, Saquon Barkley, who is the focal point of the offense, is out for at least a month with an ankle injury. That puts even more pressure of Jones to perform; a tricky deal given his limited experience.

Overall, this is a matchup void of much of any offensive playmakers and both quarterbacks don’t exactly scream “big yards” and “explosive plays.” Somewhat crazy to see most of Week 4’s games totaled in the mid-to-low 40’s and yet this matchup was played up from 46 to 49. Good value on the under.
