FREE PICK: Missouri State Bears vs. USC Trojans
#762 UNDER 147
I made a lot of money betting Dana Ford’s Tennessee State teams under the total. The Tigers were a grind-it-out squad that emphasized smart shot selection and strong defense. Ford took the gig at Missouri State and like a lot of first-year head coaches promised pace and scoring. His word held true the first three games of the season as MSU averaged 80.3 ppg and 77 possessions against weaker competition. But then came a step up in class with Nebraska, and the outcome wasn’t to Ford’s liking.
“I don’t care if we play the ’98 Bulls, we can’t turn the ball over 18 times,” Ford said. “That’s something we need to get corrected.”
The Cornhuskers rolled to an 85-62 win as Missouri State hoisted 24 threes (made 7) and turned the ball over 18 times. Simply put, Missouri State doesn’t have the talent to compete against a power conference foe without shortening the game and playing more conservative.
USC comes in off of a 78-63 loss to Texas Tech. The Trojans led at halftime 32-23 but the Red Raiders went wild in the second half. USC’s zone was for the most part effective but TTU got to the line a whopping 30 times vs. only 12 trips for USC.
USC likes to play at a fast pace on offense but its matchup zone keeps most games moderately paced. Look for Missouri State to play it a little closer to the vest in order to stay within striking distance. Good spot to play the under.
