FREE PICK: USF Bulls at Cincinnati Bearcats
#615 USF +13 (Tuesday, January 15 @ 7 pm EST)
The worst thing that happened to Cincinnati was its 93-61 win over Tulane in the AAC opener. Ever since that win, the Bearcats have looked very much like a 12-6 or 11-7 team in conference play as oppose to last year’s stellar 16-2. And that makes sense considering Cinci lost the services of Jacob Evans and Gray Clark to the NBA. First there was a loss at East Carolina. Then there was a fortunate overtime win at Tulsa; the Golden Hurricane led by six with just over a minute remaining in regulation. And over the weekend, UConn trailed by doubles in the second half only to force overtime. Note that Tulsa and UConn outrebounded Cincinnati; a near unheard of achievement against a Mick Cronin team. Tonight projects to be another slugfest though USF now has enough talent to compete against the likes of the AAC’s upper class. The Bulls are a perfect 4-0 ATS in league play despite shooting 30% from three and 56% from the line. Their success has come from playing Cincinnati-esque defense with currently the AAC’s top defensive efficiency rating (0.91 ppp allowed). Brian Gregory has this team trending in the right direction and deserving of support as a double-digit dog tonight.
