College Football Betting Free Pick: Arizona State Sun Devils at Michigan State Spartans

CFB FREE PICK: Arizona State Sun Devils at Michigan State Spartans

#160 Michigan State -13.5 (Saturday, September 14 @ 4 pm EST)

Would have preferred if Michigan State produced more of a typical output last week rather than 582 yards of offense in a 51-17 win over Western Michigan. But if anything, it was a positive sign for an offense that netted only 303 yards in Week 1 vs. Tulsa.

The play here, however, is more so against Arizona State. The Sun Devils are incredibly “green” with the two-deep littered with first-year players.

“We’ve got a bunch of young guys,” Edwards said. “We’ve done a lot of things with the offensive line … that’s just the way it is right now. There’s not a lot of depth there and the depth that is there are freshmen players and we’re going to be forced to play some of those guys.”

Last week, it took the Sun Devils three and a half quarters to net their first touchdown at home against Sacramento State. Even more alarming is the run-game, which Edwards is going to rely on heavily this season with a rookie quarterback, averaged only 2.3 ypc. Now they are being asked to go on the road for the first time and face one of the nation’s top defensive lines which accounting for sack yardage, has allowed -6 rushing yards through two games.

And while ASU’s defense held Kent State and Sacramento State in check, I’m leery of how they’ll fare on the road with 14 underclassmen currently on the two-deep.

Michigan State’s offensive explosion last week wasn’t something I expect on a weekly basis moving forward. But even if the Spartans regress back to their plodding ways, 21 points may be all that is need to cover this game.
