MLB Betting Free Pick: Atlanta Braves at Cincinnati Reds

FREE PICK: Atlanta Braves (Teheran) at Cincinnati Reds (Castillo)

#906 Cincinnati -133 (Thursday, April 25 @ 6:40 pm EST)

Cincinnati’s Luis Castillo has really come into his own. After two season of showing flashes of being an ace, he’s officially arrived as he sports a 1.47 ERA, 2.53 FIP and 52% ground ball rate. Castillo has probably been a little bit fortunate with 14 walks and only one home run allowed but from a stuff standpoint, he’s one of the top starting pitchers in the National League.

Julio Teheran has been a tough guy to figure out. He’s essentially traded off good and bad starts and has faced a brutal schedule: at Philadelphia, vs. Chicago, at Colorado, vs. New York, and at Cleveland. He’s at a point his career where he’s forced to nibble and rely a ton on that sweeping breaking ball to right-handed hitters. I think there’s some good outings on the horizon for Teheran but I’m not a fan of his fly ball ways in Great American Ball Park. Also note that after an early season spike, his velocity has regressed to below 90 mph.

Overall, give Cincinnati the starting pitching edge as well as in the bullpen as the Braves have really struggled in the late innings.
