MLB Betting Free Pick: Detroit Tigers at Toronto Blue Jays

FREE PICK: Detroit Tigers (Boyd) vs. Toronto Blue Jays (Shoemaker)

#960 UNDER 9 (Friday, March 29 @ 6 pm EST)

Two starting pitchers on below average teams that don’t command much respect in the betting markets but have the potential to offer a bit of value. Toronto’s Matt Shoemaker has been hampered by injuries that last two years. He’s 32 years old and inked a one-year deal with the Blue Jays. When healthy, Shoemaker has generally flashed decent peripherals. In 2016, his last full season, he posted sub-4.00’s in ERA, FIP, and xFIP and a respectable 3.5 WAR. Spring training reports indicate that Shoemaker is healthy as he fanned 20 over 18 innings. Detroit’s Matt Boyd showed encouraging improvements last season. He increased his K rate per 9 by over 1 and lowered his ERA by nearly a run. At 28, Boyd is poised to make the next step as reports out of camp show his velocity to be significantly higher than last season’s averages.

“It’s a function of my mechanics and working with Andy (pitching coach Rick Anderson),” Boyd said of the spike in his velocity. “We really got back to the fastball at the midpoint last year. I just started to realizing there was another gear. I could get out front more (more extension on his delivery). And when I command the fastball, everything else gets better.”

Offense was difficult to come by yesterday as Jordan Zimmermann and Marcus Stroman combined for 14 innings, 3 hits and no runs. With the key number of 9 still available we’ll look for another under to cash in.

Andrew Lange

With significant market influence, Andrew Lange has produced a decade-long 58% winning rate on over 750 selections in college basketball. Using a low volume, high return approach, Lange's results in the NFL have been equally impressive with a 61% mark and over +49 units of profit on a 1, 1.5, and 2-unit scale since 2012.
