MLB Betting Free Pick: Washington Nationals at San Diego Padres

FREE PICK: Washington Nationals (Fedde) at San Diego Padres (Margevicius)

#961 Washington -110 5-inning (Friday, une 7 @ 10:10 pm EST)

Washington’s Erick Fedde will likely never live up to the hype that billed him one of the organization’s top pitching prospects. Originally a first round pick, Fedde has dealt with multiple injuries that have impacted his once elite-level stuff. He his however still only 26 years old and has shown the ability (24.2 IP, 2.55 ERA) to get MLB hitters out. The peripheral stats aren’t eye-catching but coming from the right-side in Petco Park is as good a profile as you’ll find for Fedde.

San Diego’s Nick Margevicius would probably benefit from more time in the minors. He burst on the scene with three straight 1-earned run efforts to start the season but has since been one of the most hittable starters in MLB. His last two efforts were particularly alarming as he allowed 14 hits, 10 earned run, 4 home runs and only 3 strikeouts over 7 innings at home against Miami and Pittsburgh. Washington isn’t the most ideal matchup for a turnaround either as the Nationals rank 1st in the National League in wRC+ vs. left-handed pitching.

As always, any wager on the Nationals becomes risky when their historically bad bullpen has a chance to get involved. Even during their current 9-3 run, Washington’s pen posted a near 5.00 ERA. Feel that the starting pitching matchup favors Fedde meaning Washington on the 5-inning line the way to look.
