College Basketball Betting Free Pick: Columbia Lions at Pennsylvania Quakers

FREE PICK: Columbia Lions at Pennsylvania Quakers

#860 Penn -7.5 (Friday, February 22 at 8 pm EST)

The Ivy League is just past the midpoint of the regular season. The top four teams in the conference qualify for the conference tournament. As of the current standings, neither Penn nor Columbia would make it. The similarities end there. Penn is sitting fifth in the standings at 3-5 (Princeton and Cornell are tied for third at 5-3), while Columbia is last. Penn has also played the majority of their conference games on the road and Columbia has played most of theirs at home.

Not only are the prospects dire for Columbia to make the conference tournament, they have almost no chance at all. Penn’s chances could improve immensely this weekend. The two third place teams play each other so someone gets a loss, and then Penn hosts Cornell Saturday. The motivation is there for Penn to take care of business against a Lion team that has lost six straight even with the benefit of four of those at home. Columbia is 2-10 on the road and basically just playing the season out with no hope of extending it. Penn is 6-3 at home and motivated to get into the mix of the conference tournament race. Steve Donahue’s bunch should play inspired basketball tonight at the Palestra. Lay the -7.5 points with the better, more experienced Quaker team at home.
