NFL FREE PICK: Dallas Cowboys at New York Jets

 #270 New York Jets +7 (Sunday, October 13 @ 4:25 pm EST)

It’s been a rough season for the New York Jets to say the least. They come in at 0-4 and their season is likely already over for all intents and purposes. The Jets are one of our winless teams in the NFL, but they don’t belong in that group. The main reason that the Jets haven’t won a single game yet is due to injuries. Quarterback Sam Darnold has missed the last three games with mono, and top defenders C.J. Mosley and Quinnen Williams have also missed three games. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg when you consider that third-string quarterback Luke Falk has played three games at a level so putrid that he makes Josh Rosen look like an All-Pro. It’s been a mess in New York, but things are going to get better in a hurry. Darnold is healthy again and will start, Williams returns and it looks like Mosley could be back as well. These three players alone are worth at least six to seven points to the line when you consider how little production they got from Falk.

The Cowboys looked like a top five team in the NFL after coasting against the Giants, Redskins and Dolphins the first three weeks of the season. But reality set in when they went up against the Saints and Packers and were shut down offensively. It looked like it could be a breakthrough year for Dallas, but they look more like the same old Cowboys now. It’s hard to justify this team laying seven points on the road against anyone, and especially a team that is finally getting healthy. Remember, many were projecting the Jets to be a borderline playoff contender before the season (myself included!). It’s not going to happen this year, but the Jets are a vastly better team today than they were just last week. Play New York in the home underdog role.
