NCAA Championship Betting: Virginia Cavaliers a Short Favorite Over Texas Tech Red Raiders

The college basketball season comes to an end tonight with the Texas Tech Red Raiders and Virginia Cavaliers facing off in the National Championship at US Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minn. Virginia is currently a -1.5 favorite offshore and -1 favorite at most sportsbooks in Las Vegas. The total was bet down off the opener of 119 to 118 (a few 117.5’s are present). The lowest total over the last decade prior to tonight was 128.5 in 2010 (note that was also before the shot clock was lowered from 35 to 30). In terms of power ratings, Sagarin shows Virginia to be a -3.2 favorite while KenPom has the Cavaliers -3. According to Don Best, 59% of the public is on Texas Tech while 52% is on the over. The under has cashed in seven of the last 10 title games. Favorites are 6-4 against the spread. Just picking the straight up winner has cashed in nine of the last 10 title games; the lone exception being in 2010 when Butler lost to Duke 61-59 but covered as +7 underdogs.
