MLB Handicapping: San Diego Padres’ O/U Win Total Jumps After Machado Signing
The Manny Machado Sweepstakes is officially over following this afternoon’s announcement that the 26-year-old inked a 10-year, $300 million deal with the San Diego Padres. This of course caused some movement in the MLB Futures market. Prior to today, San Diego’s regular season over/under wins total was 76.5. Las Vegas’ Westgate SuperBook bumped it to 79.5 before it settled back at 78.5. The organization hasn’t topped 77 wins since 2010 when it finished 90-72. The Westgate also dropped the Padres’ odds to win the National League West from 30-1 to 12-1. If you’re curious, this is what San Diego’s updated depth chart looks like. Note that the team’s minor league system is considered by some to be the strongest in baseball. Below is a tweet from the Westgate’s Jeff Sherman on the adjustments made to San Diego’s odds.
