NBA Handicapping: Analyzing Regular Season Win Totals

NBA

The NBA season starts October 16 and my prep work has already begun. One thing I like to do prior to each season is look at the futures market to get an idea of each team’s preseason expectations. I do this by looking at regular season win totals. During the offseason there were a handful of impact signings, most notably LeBron James (Lakers) and Kawhi Leonard (Raptors). In the case of the James, Cleveland’s season win total is -19.5 compared to last year’s 50-32 record. On the flip side, with James now on board, the Lakers are +13.5 wins. Below I’ve listed each team’s win output from a season ago, this year’s season win total (courtesy of The Greek), and the differential. Our biggest “gainers” include the aforementioned Lakers (+13.5 wins), Memphis (+12), Dallas (+9), and Phoenix (+8.5). In terms of “decliners” we have the Cavs (-19.5), Houston (-9), and Portland (-6.5). Handicapping the NBA has been a passion of mine since becoming a professional bettor. I’ve produced a profit in 13 straight seasons and am already hard at work and primed to make it 14 in 2018-19. Be sure to check out my home page for all of this year’s subscription options.
