NFL Gambling News: Chiefs-Rams Marks Highest Total in League History

NFL

Monday night’s Kansas City vs. Los Angeles matchup is no doubt one for the ages as both teams sport NFL-best 9-1 records (New Orleans is 8-1). The game was originally slated to be played in Mexico but due to poor field conditions, it was moved to Los Angeles. For bettors it marks the highest total in NFL history with most offshore sportsbooks currently offering 63.5. One database shows only two prior games with closing totals of 60 or higher. In 2000, the Rams beat the 49ers 34-24 with a total of 62. And last season, the Falcons beat the Packers (60.5) 44-21. Interestingly enough, neither the Rams or Chiefs lead the NFL in total offense or scoring. Those honors go to Tampa Bay (452.8 ypg) and New Orleans (36.7 ppg). Also noteworthy, is the Rams and Chiefs are both 5-5 from an over/under perspective.

In other news, below we listed this week’s and CG Technology’s famed summer look-ahead point spreads. You’ll notice that a number of matchups don’t show much if any discrepancy. There are however some pretty big differences. How about the Saints a full touchdown higher over the defending Super Bowl champ Eagles? Or the Cardinals, who came into the season as one of the lowest power rated teams in the league, laying -5 to the Raiders. Maybe Gruden could use that as bulletin board material!
